There is a wide range of fully wireless earphones on the market of different brands and prices. But among all this variety, are there worthy options with decent sound and a good set of features at an affordable price? We have prepared a rating of 5 models of TWS headphones worth up to 10,000 rubles. Each of them has its own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages. But they all work for a long time and sound decent.

How was it evaluated

When compiling the rating of budget wireless headphones, we took into account the following parameters: Bluetooth version, supported codecs, operating time, protection against moisture and dust. We evaluated each pair of headphones relative to other models from the list according to one of these characteristics. The maximum score for each criterion is 5 points. Let’s dwell on them in more detail.

Bluetooth version

With the development of technology, new audio codecs are supported, data transfer speeds increase and power consumption decreases. Accordingly, the higher the Bluetooth version, the better.

The most “fresh” — 5.2. It adds support for LE Audio with the new LC3 codec instead of the standard SBC and the ability to connect multiple pairs of headphones to one smartphone. However, in order to take advantage of all the advantages of Bluetooth 5.2, both headphones and the sound source must support this version.

Codecs

For the codec to work, it is also important that it is supported not only by headphones, but also by the sound source.

While Bluetooth LE Audio is not widely used, SBC is the standard for Bluetooth. More advanced alternatives are AAC, the aptX family of codecs, Sony’s LDAC, and other less popular codecs.

The more codecs the headphones support, the higher the score.

Working hours

Typically, TWS models can work without recharging for 3–6 hours. However, they are complemented by a case for storage and recharging. It gives 2–4 more full charges.

When evaluating, we took into account the total battery life. The larger it is, the higher the score.

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)

Attenuates ambient noise with external microphones. Thanks to this, you can listen to music at a lower volume in a noisy environment (for example, at a train station, near a busy highway). Usually models with ANC also have a “transparent” mode, which allows external noise to pass through and allows you to hear what is happening around you (for example, for safety when jogging or cycling next to the road).

Activating ANC mode increases battery consumption.

Models equipped with Active Noise Cancellation will receive a higher score.

Sweat/Moisture Resistant

Specified in IPXX format. Some models can withstand only drops of sweat, others will survive a downpour. The higher the degree of protection, the higher the score.

In the features of each model, we have indicated the frequency range, impedance, sensitivity and speaker diameter. However, we will not take into account these parameters in the evaluation.

frequency range talks about the musical abilities of the headphones. The farther apart the boundaries of the range, the better. However, there is no single standard for measurement. Therefore, manufacturers in most cases indicate a frequency range of 20–20000 Hz. But in fact it turns out to be much narrower (at best 40–18000 Hz). It is better to determine the sound quality by ear during testing.

Sensitivity It is measured in decibels and varies in the range of 60–140 dB. The higher it is, the louder the headphones play. Unfortunately, manufacturers measure the sensitivity of their True-Wireless headphones in arbitrary ways. The results are not always comparable with each other.

Impedance (resistance) is measured in ohms. Headphone requests to the power of sound sources depend on this parameter. Devices with a resistance not higher than 50 ohms can work even with the weakest sources (for example, mobile phones). High impedance models require additional amplification to drive portable equipment, but produce cleaner sound. When choosing wireless headphones, you don’t have to worry about impedance, since they are equipped with a built-in amplifier.

Speaker diameter — the more, the better the sound and richer bass. In fully wireless headphones (tws), the diameter of the speakers is in the range of 5–15 mm.
