Today’s review is dedicated to a seemingly banal thing — a peephole on the front door. But, only here is a digital version with an HD camera and a screen. No need to yell: “Who’s there?” ‑Everything is visible on the screen and will be recorded on the card. Let’s install it and check it out.

Packing and kit

The device is delivered in a simple cardboard box. Foam insert on the inside to protect the contents during transport.

S15 delivery set:

  • Camera
  • Screen block
  • BP-4L format battery
  • Micro USB cable 2 meters
  • English user manual
  • Mounting plate
  • Screws 3 sizes

Appearance

The device consists of two functional elements: a camera with a bell (mounted outside the door) and a main unit with a screen (stands inside the apartment). And, of course, fasteners for different door thicknesses.

Let’s start with the camera, which is installed outside the door.

The case is metal, a cable comes out of it for connection to the main unit. Fastening from the outside of the door with double-sided tape and screws to the bracket from the inside of the door.

On the body are located: a motion sensor, a camera, infrared illumination of two diodes, a microphone and a call button with a label.

Next, the main unit with the screen. The physical dimensions of the screen: 9.6x5.5 cm. The body is plastic, it weighs only 130 g.

Top slot for memory card (up to 32 GB), bottom micro USB port for charging the battery. It is removable, inserted under the lid.

There is just a camera, without a display, to work with an external one. Attaches to the peephole hole.

All door peephole control is concentrated on the right side (the screen is not touch). The screen activation button is oblong.

The battery of the model was previously used in Nokia phones. Real capacity ~1500 mAh. There is a tongue for easy removal from the case.

Device menu

Main screen. On it: View footage, live view, motion sensor, IR illumination, settings and language selection.

In playback mode, you can delete one photo or all. In the settings of the motion sensor, the time is set (15 s — 2 min).

Settings. You can choose the mode: photo or video. And one of three operating modes: at home / do not disturb / not at home with a record of all activities.

We set the date manually, but if you remove the battery, the settings go astray.

Installation

Installation of such a device does not require special tools and a lot of time. All you need is a screwdriver and a degreaser for double-sided tape.

The mounting bracket (placed inside) steel on the door is also fixed with double-sided tape. M3 screws, 2 pcs. three types for different door thicknesses.

First we install the camera outside the door, then the bracket inside, pull the strap through it, and tighten the camera with two screws.

Then we connect the unit to the camera with a cable, close the cover and hang the unit with the screen on the bracket. Everything is working. To save photos and videos, you need to insert a memory card (not included).

Usage

The bell is very loud, you can hear it even through two doors. Ringtone (one of four) and three volume levels.

I did not like that the device thinks 2–3 seconds before turning on the screen, when you press the button.

In terms of C15 autonomy: the battery lasts for two weeks of use, and with a motion sensor and video for about a week. The battery is charged with a current of 0.7 A in 2+ hours.

Photos are saved in size 1280x720 and occupy ~0.5 Mb on the card. Let’s see examples in real size (1st photo in night mode with backlight):

It shoots like a budget IP camera M4T.

There is a smooth digital zoom up to 4x. Animation:

Video mode writes with sound (10 or 20 sec):

Video parameters: AVI format, MJPG codec, 1280x720 16.527 fps.

Conclusion

Perhaps a good IP camera will give more features and quality, but this option is enough for me. The child can press the button and see who came, and there are records of all activities in front of the door.

At the end of the review, we traditionally list the pros and cons of the product under consideration.

Pros:

  • Universal Form Factor
  • Backlight
  • Video recording with sound
  • loud call

Minuses:

  • Dead battery
  • No settings memory
  • Thinks for a long time when turning on the screen
