C15 Digital Peephole: HD resolution and 4.3” large screen, but is it all smooth sailing?

Today’s review is ded­i­cat­ed to a seem­ing­ly banal thing — a peep­hole on the front door. But, only here is a dig­i­tal ver­sion with an HD cam­era and a screen. No need to yell: “Who’s there?” ‑Every­thing is vis­i­ble on the screen and will be record­ed on the card. Let’s install it and check it out.

Appearance

The device con­sists of two func­tion­al ele­ments: a cam­era with a bell (mount­ed out­side the door) and a main unit with a screen (stands inside the apart­ment). And, of course, fas­ten­ers for dif­fer­ent door thick­ness­es.

Let’s start with the cam­era, which is installed out­side the door.

The case is met­al, a cable comes out of it for con­nec­tion to the main unit. Fas­ten­ing from the out­side of the door with dou­ble-sided tape and screws to the brack­et from the inside of the door.

On the body are locat­ed: a motion sen­sor, a cam­era, infrared illu­mi­na­tion of two diodes, a micro­phone and a call but­ton with a label.

Next, the main unit with the screen. The phys­i­cal dimen­sions of the screen: 9.6x5.5 cm. The body is plas­tic, it weighs only 130 g.

Top slot for mem­o­ry card (up to 32 GB), bot­tom micro USB port for charg­ing the bat­tery. It is remov­able, insert­ed under the lid.

There is just a cam­era, with­out a dis­play, to work with an exter­nal one. Attach­es to the peep­hole hole.

All door peep­hole con­trol is con­cen­trat­ed on the right side (the screen is not touch). The screen acti­va­tion but­ton is oblong.

The bat­tery of the mod­el was pre­vi­ous­ly used in Nokia phones. Real capac­i­ty ~1500 mAh. There is a tongue for easy removal from the case.

Device menu

Main screen. On it: View footage, live view, motion sen­sor, IR illu­mi­na­tion, set­tings and lan­guage selec­tion.

In play­back mode, you can delete one pho­to or all. In the set­tings of the motion sen­sor, the time is set (15 s — 2 min).

Set­tings. You can choose the mode: pho­to or video. And one of three oper­at­ing modes: at home / do not dis­turb / not at home with a record of all activ­i­ties.

We set the date man­u­al­ly, but if you remove the bat­tery, the set­tings go astray.

Installation

Instal­la­tion of such a device does not require spe­cial tools and a lot of time. All you need is a screw­driv­er and a degreas­er for dou­ble-sided tape.

The mount­ing brack­et (placed inside) steel on the door is also fixed with dou­ble-sided tape. M3 screws, 2 pcs. three types for dif­fer­ent door thick­ness­es.

First we install the cam­era out­side the door, then the brack­et inside, pull the strap through it, and tight­en the cam­era with two screws.

Then we con­nect the unit to the cam­era with a cable, close the cov­er and hang the unit with the screen on the brack­et. Every­thing is work­ing. To save pho­tos and videos, you need to insert a mem­o­ry card (not includ­ed).

Usage

The bell is very loud, you can hear it even through two doors. Ring­tone (one of four) and three vol­ume lev­els.

I did not like that the device thinks 2–3 sec­onds before turn­ing on the screen, when you press the but­ton.

In terms of C15 auton­o­my: the bat­tery lasts for two weeks of use, and with a motion sen­sor and video for about a week. The bat­tery is charged with a cur­rent of 0.7 A in 2+ hours.

Pho­tos are saved in size 1280x720 and occu­py ~0.5 Mb on the card. Let’s see exam­ples in real size (1st pho­to in night mode with back­light):

Conclusion

Per­haps a good IP cam­era will give more fea­tures and qual­i­ty, but this option is enough for me. The child can press the but­ton and see who came, and there are records of all activ­i­ties in front of the door.
