Apple recent­ly announced its iPhone line­up for 2017. These are the expect­ed iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, and of course, the inno­v­a­tive iPhone X. How­ev­er, we are not see­ing all the fea­tures of the new top smart­phone or the smart­phone of the future for the first time. And, if you still want to touch the future today, we picked up a few smart­phones that were ahead of Apple and turned out to be much more afford­able.

The whole smartphone is one big screen

If you want to enjoy a smart­phone that’s all one big screen, then you have plen­ty to choose from, even if you’re not ready to get an iPhone 10.

One of the smart­phones with a tru­ly huge dis­play that takes up the entire front of the device is the Xiao­mi Mi Mix.

This smart­phone appeared in 2017, its bezel-less dis­play has a diag­o­nal of 6.8 inch­es. 6 GB of RAM, pow­er­ful Snap­drag­on 821 — all this only empha­sizes the capa­bil­i­ties of this smart­phone. But very soon, his suc­ces­sor, Xiao­mi Mi Mix 2, will be on sale. By the way, the nov­el­ty will not be as huge at all. Dis­play Mi Mix 2 will receive a diag­o­nal of 5.99 inch­es. Xiao­mi is not the only com­pa­ny that has cho­sen to get rid of the but­tons on the front pan­el — LG already did the same in 2016 in the LG V20 smart­phone and in the new prod­uct that will soon enter the mar­ket — LG V30. The lat­est smart­phone will sup­port QHD +, just like the Sam­sung Galaxy S8, too, by the way, with­out screen bezels.

Wireless charger

With the eighth and tenth mod­els, the iPhone final­ly began to sup­port wire­less charg­ing tech­nol­o­gy. True, unlike, for exam­ple, Sam­sung, Apple lim­it­ed itself exclu­sive­ly to Qi.

At the same time, the smart­phone stud­ies all the details and bio­met­rics of the owner’s face, remem­bers the data and then takes pic­tures to com­pare it with the orig­i­nal and either give access to the smart­phone or not. The prob­a­bil­i­ty of a coin­ci­dence is 1 in 1,000,000. Whether this is actu­al­ly the case, we will find out very soon, but for now let’s see who else has applied this tech­nol­o­gy.

Apple is indeed not the first com­pa­ny to decide that a fin­ger­print is not enough to pro­tect data. Own­er’s face recog­ni­tion appeared even ear­li­er on the LG G6, Sam­sung Galaxy S8 and Sam­sung Galaxy Note 8.

It seems that in terms of data pro­tec­tion, Apple still man­aged to beat the com­pe­ti­tion.

Glass back

The glass back is one of the key ele­ments in the design of the new iPhone X. How­ev­er, in this case, Apple picked up a pop­u­lar trend rather than became a pio­neer. Apple has respond­ed with a screen called Super Reti­na. Super Reti­na is an OLED dis­play that is “good enough for an iPhone”. Accord­ing to the man­u­fac­tur­ers, it has all the advan­tages of OLED, but does not have the dis­ad­van­tages of this tech­nol­o­gy, such as exces­sive bright­ness, insuf­fi­cient­ly cor­rect col­or repro­duc­tion, and so on. Which of the dis­plays is still bet­ter, it will be more log­i­cal to judge when the iPhone X hits the shelves.

augmented reality

Aug­ment­ed real­i­ty is con­sid­ered the future of gam­ing and oth­er appli­ca­tions. Man­u­fac­tur­ers claim that the iPhone X is a smart­phone ful­ly pre­pared for aug­ment­ed real­i­ty. True, a spe­cial smart­phone for AR appeared a lit­tle ear­li­er — Asus Zen­fone AR. It is equipped with 8GB of RAM and three cam­eras, only one of which is respon­si­ble for tak­ing pho­tos. The main func­tion of this device is to work with the Google plat­form for aug­ment­ed real­i­ty. Even ear­li­er, Leno­vo Phab 2 Pro appeared, with a 6.4‑inch screen.

The dual cam­era is not new to the iPhone, but even before the iPhone 7 Plus, when it first appeared, LG and Huawei smart­phones were already equipped with such a cam­era.
