The disc in 2022 is a bit bewildering. But the user manual has a QR code for downloading software to a smartphone, and PC software can be downloaded from the manufacturer’s website (for model SV606). The microscope model is still new, so roughness is possible.

Assembly and appearance
The microscope is delivered unassembled, it takes 1 minute to install it on a tripod. The tripod consists of an aluminum table (dimensions 148x77x5 mm) with developed rubber legs and an aluminum rod 150 mm with an arm for a microscope. They are threaded and secured with a locknut. Rack and pinion smoothly lowers and raises the bracket.

The microscope is made in a cylindrical body (130x34 mm) made of silvery plastic. Weight 75 g. Since there is no large display, the model is compact and inexpensive. On the case there is a ribbed ring for manual focus adjustment, there was a place for a small screen (14x6 mm) and a couple of buttons (turn on and take a photo). The microscope is fixed in the arm with a pair of screws with a rubber ending.

The entire assembly is quite rigid. Total weight of the microscope with tripod: 380 g.
At the lower end of the microscope is a camera eye with a transparent acrylic protection. And on the top — a connector for charging and connecting to a PC and a wheel for adjusting the brightness of the backlight.

The manufacturer did not forget about the reset button, you can press it with an unfolded paper clip. There is no slot for a memory card, the content is stored in a smartphone or PC.
The work of the backlight does not raise any questions, it shines with a cold light, the brightness is sufficient.

The screen shows welcome words, and after turning on, the charge indication and an active connection (WiFi or cable to PC).
The built-in battery charges quickly enough, and when working with a PC, charging is also in progress. During operation, the upper part of the case heats up a little.

Exploitation
Let’s start with the HiView PC software. I liked it more than mobile, although it loses in resolution.
Its main task is to display an image from a microscope on a computer monitor. And you can also:
-
Take photo/video
-
Calibrate the microscope for ruler measurements
-
Take various measurements
-
Add captions and tags on the photo

When calibrating the microscope, the magnification is shown. You can rely on these values, they vary from 20 to 220, on average 50 times. Onion cells, as in school experiments, cannot be seen here.
Complete usb cable without a ferrite EMI filter, so interference in the image slips.
Here is a human hair without digital zoom. And then some photos from a PC with different magnifications.

For a video file, the following parameters are: 1280x720 30 fps, bit rate 800 Kbps, Windows Media Video 9 codec.
Let’s move on to mobile software. The program is called “HVCAMWIFI”, connecting with a smartphone via a WiFi network. The microscope is displayed with dances, you need to enable geo positioning and hit the tambourine.

There are even fewer functions here than in PC software, but JPEG photos have a higher resolution: 1920x1080.
Conclusion
The Svbony SM401 microscope can be used for soldering and monitoring tracks on printed circuit boards, sharpening knives, in numismatics for checking and cleaning coins, pulling out a splinter, and just for fun, for example, to watch insects.
At the end of the review, we traditionally list the pros and cons of the considered device.

Convenient metal tripod
-
Wide magnification adjustment
-
