General recommendations for the design of the photo zone
idea
The lack of a coherent idea can ruin a photo shoot. The first step is to think through everything to the smallest detail: the theme that will be the main focus, decor. A good solution is to collect references, examples of photo shoots similar to the idea. We do not call for copying someone else’s work, but you can be inspired by them.

The basis of the composition
The main accent can be a Christmas tree, a fireplace (for a winter photo zone), an inscription in the center of the photo background, an arch (for a birthday, a wedding), a picnic, a gazebo, a throne, an unusual background — for example, from spruce branches and cotton (for thematic zones). Something must immediately grab attention

Decor
No need to mix everything at once. A photo zone is a beautiful object or a collection of objects that should not distract attention from the model. The background should not be overloaded with different textures. For example:
- an arch made of lace plastic is a self-sufficient element. Flowers, fabric will overload him. But the garland will create beautiful highlights from the patterns;
- the wooden base goes well with fabrics, flowers;
- balls are good on their own. They are glossy, matte, patterned, plain, transparent, filled with confetti. It is enough to supplement such a variety with a monophonic photo background in the same color scheme as the composition, but not overload it with unnecessary decor.

Ideas for a photo zone in spring and summer
Summer and spring are the time of dynamics, rich colors, light textures. At this time, bright colors and their shades are popular:
- red;
- yellow;
- green;
- pink;
- blue.
At the same time, gentle shades are more often used in spring, and more saturated ones in summer. It has to do with the way a person perceives the world. Spring is the time when life is just emerging, everything is tender, quivering. And in summer life is already more intense, bright.
materials
To decorate the zone in nature, full-fledged decorations are used. These are arches, arbors, flower arrangements. The basis for them is made of different materials:
- plywood is a cheap, lightweight, durable material. It is simply processed — you can easily give the desired shape with a jigsaw. Withstand light wind, short-term “mushroom” summer rain. But purposefully use in bad weather is not recommended;
- wood is a pleasant to the touch, beautiful and durable material. Great for outdoor photo zones — complements the landscape;
- plastic is a lightweight material that can be either colored or translucent. Suitable for creating weightless, magical compositions. For example, if you make an arch of translucent plastic, then the decorations on it will “float” in the air.

Decorations
For the warm season use:
- light fabrics: tulle, chiffon, tulle, organza. They are airy, easily fall on any frame;
- flowers: live and artificial (made of paper, foamiran — large flowers are made from it, which are very similar to real ones in color, shape, texture);
- balloons — helium and ordinary, with a pattern and plain, transparent, with confetti and feathers inside;
- in the summer, berries and fruits are popular — they will add bright colors.

Photozone ideas for photo shoots

And we talk about how to shoot a spring love story and how to take cool photos on a sunny day in our blog.
Ideas for decorating a photo zone in nature in autumn
Autumn is the time of warm flowers, soft fabrics, large pumpkins and photo shoots in the foliage.
Popular scenarios:
- people on a picnic, around wooden decor elements, wicker baskets with harvest;
- holiday of knowledge, Teacher’s Day — books, boards, the inscription “Knowledge Day” / “First of September” / “Teacher’s Day”;
- bouquets of leaves, pumpkins, funny lanterns — evenly spaced throughout the location, in the center of which there is an arch, a gazebo, a bench. The decor is necessarily made of wood, leaves. In autumn, naturalness and naturalness are valued.

What to use for decoration:
- garlands — from leaves, paper;
- balls are less in demand than in summer. But with themed decor (like Halloween pumpkins) are still popular;
- growth flowers from isolon, foamiran. If spring and summer are the time of peonies, roses, then in autumn sunflowers, chrysanthemums, asters are popular;
- vegetables and fruits (real, papier-mâché or plastic);
- wicker baskets and furniture;
- shawls and large stoles;
- hay — a large stack or neat flooring will become a real decoration of the photo zone.
Ideas for original photo zones

We have collected for you 5 ideas for an original autumn photo shoot in our blog.
Winter photo zones in nature
In winter, the street already has a ready-made photo zone for excellent shots. Juicy greenery of firs and pines, white shimmering snow — all this needs only to be emphasized to make the picture even more magical. How to take good photos in snowy weather, told in the blog.

You can use the following decor elements:
- furniture — wooden chairs, tables, benches. But not woven, as in autumn, but whole — so that the rough texture is combined with soft elements;
- fabrics are an example of a soft decor element. Woolen, knitted products, even whole skins are used. The contrast of cold snow, rough furniture and warm soft fabric creates an atmosphere of comfort;
- wooden chocks, boxes, pallets, powdered with snow — another option to create texture, but not overload the location;
- garlands — there are those that run on batteries, and not on the mains. They can be beautifully hung on “natural” decorations — spruces, or on artificial ones.

Shooting in bad weather
If the weather caught the photographer and the model during the shooting — it’s not the time to be sad, it’s time to experiment. We collected 10 tips for shooting in cloudy weather in a separate article.
But what to do with the photo zone?
It will most likely survive a light summer rain. A stormy sky will add depth and richness to the shots. But not more.
Rain, hail, snowfall will destroy compositions made of fabric, natural flowers, paper products. Strong winds can break the scenery.
What to do:
- follow the weather forecast. If precipitation is promised, it is better not to take risks and move the photo zone indoors;
- you can make a mobile structure that is easy to transfer to the premises (house, restaurant, etc.) where the event is held. In this case, you should leave free space for the photo zone in advance.
A tent saves from bad weather. It can be used like:
- short-term shelter: for the models and the photographer to wait out the rain, hide the equipment and props;
- part of the photo zone. Inside and outside the tent can be decorated, creating a full-fledged location for photography.

Tents are made from:
- metal (frame) — not afraid of wind, rain, snow;
- PVC (stretched over the frame) — resistant to external factors (moisture, sunlight, wind).
If you need to make a photo zone for a holiday that will take place outdoors, you can immediately offer an option with a tent:
- they come in different shapes (spherical, arched, classical, pagoda-shaped) and sizes. Manufacturers offer models from 3x3 m to 30x30 m — there is an option for any number of people;
- the walls of the tent are opaque, transparent, translucent — you can choose the option to your taste;
- the walls of the tent open (bring apart, rise) — people do not have the feeling that they are in a confined space. But as soon as it starts to rain, the walls can be lowered. Bad weather will not disturb guests, models;
- there are heated tents — they can be placed next to the winter photo zone, the models can warm up there between takes.

Photo zones in the room
Here you can use standard photophones. There are options for every taste and budget. There are:
- fabric, vinyl, plastic — differ in texture, density;
- black and white, multi-colored, with a pattern already applied;
- chromakey — you can shoot models against the background of a monochromatic green coating, and then substitute the desired design.
Decorations can be made from metal, wood, plywood, glass and plastic, PVC sheets and foam board. When choosing, you need to consider: for whom the holiday is and what object is in the center of the composition.
For example:
if the location is for small children + in the center there is a topiary figure of a bunny that you can climb on, it is better to refuse glass. It’s easy to break it. It is better to buy a figure on a solid metal frame, the main arch can be made of wood.

For decoration, you can use any materials. The main thing to remember about the age of the participants, the idea and the temperature in the room:
- if it is hot in the hall, the temperature is above 20 ° C, then fresh flowers will deteriorate in 6–10 hours (the buds will open and the petals will become soft);
- you should not install a photo zone with ice sculptures indoors if the temperature there is above ‑5 °C. The exception is if it’s a Lumi Linna Castle style party where everything is made of ice. And ice can be replaced with transparent plastic.

And for those who shoot in the studio, indoors for the first time, we have prepared a special guide on our blog.
Ideas for children’s and adult photo zones

Shooting equipment
For work you will need:
- a photophone and/or a monolithic structure with a complex background. For example, a wooden panel of fresh flowers. We talked about how to choose a background in the blog;
- additional light sources are needed. If the budget allows, you can take several reflectors, light modifiers. The exact choice of equipment depends on the purpose / idea and budget. For example, for a summer love story, when you need to make intense and bright sunlight softer, a photo umbrella is suitable;
- color photo filters. With their help, you can highlight objects with color, toned the background;
- UV filter — protects the matrix from UV rays;
- tripod for long exposure. A guide to choosing a tripod is already on our blog;
- a protective case for the camera — relevant for a photo shoot in the open air at any time of the year. Protects from rain, wind, snow.
Shooting equipment — budget option
If the budget is limited, a truncated list of equipment will do:
- photophone stand;
- several flashes. Prepared a detailed guide on how to use the on-camera flash and set it up;
- in order for the flashes to fire at the same time, you need a synchronizer. It is better to take the IR or radio option. We talk about their differences and advantages in a separate article;
- tripod;
- if you can save on photo filters, then you don’t need to protect the camera. It is better to pick up a budget case for shooting outdoors in case of rain.
