Photo recovery on Windows

Once deleted from the computer, the files do not immediately disappear forever. First, the operating system marks their location as reusable space. But the file will only be overwritten when the device needs space.
Therefore, as soon as you have deleted the desired file, it is best to immediately stop using the disk so that the file is not overwritten.
Windows: Restore from Recycle Bin
Restoring from the trash
The easiest way to get photos back is to pull them out of the trash. This is where all deleted files are sent in the first place.
- Click on the basket;
- Find the desired photo files;
- Select them with Shift and right click;
- Select “Restore” from the menu.
Windows: Restore via Windows Backup
If you constantly create a backup of documents, then the files can be restored from there. To do this, open File Backup and Restore and find the documents you want to restore. The Wizard will then guide you step by step.
Windows: recovery through special applications

Since the cases of deleting the necessary files are common, developers regularly create special applications that allow you to restore data after deleting it from the trash, even without creating a backup.
Such programs include, for example, Disk Drill, a free application for Windows 7, 8 and 10.
- Install the application, allow it access to system management;
- Run Disk Drill and select the drive you plan to recover photos from;
- View the files, the program will allow you to see a preview;
- Recover documents by clicking the Recover button.

Recently deleted documents are usually in the trash if you haven’t emptied it yet.

- Right-click (or double-tap the trackpad on laptops) to open the menu of the file you want to recover and select Restore.
Mac: Restore via Time Machine
Like Windows, Mac has a backup feature called Time Machine or Time Machine.
In the upper right corner, click on the icon of this application and you can view the files by the time you deleted them. Select the document you want to restore and click the corresponding button. Photos will be returned to their original location.
Mac: iTunes backup

If you sync photos with iTunes and make a backup of files, then you can restore them through this program. Usually a backup is made to an external drive or another computer.
- Exit iTunes;
- Go to the “This PC” folder and select the external drive;
- Select the iTunes folder, right-click on it and click “Copy”;
- Paste where you want to use the folder;

- A message will appear asking you to select a folder from which to load the library. Select the folder you just pasted and the Library.itl file;
- Click “Open”. Ready.
Mac: Third party app
Apps like Disk Drill also exist for Mac computers and work in the same way as they do on Windows. It is enough to enter “data recovery” in the AppStore search and the store will show you the available options.
Photo recovery on phones
With the help of the apps already mentioned, you can recover photos from iPhone or Android.
- To do this, install the program and enter the administrator password;
- Connect your smartphone to a computer, allow you to view files on it;
- Click “Restore” next to the device icon;
- Select files.

Once deleted, all photos on iPhone are stored for 30 days in the Recently Deleted Photos folder. You can get into it through Images -> Albums.
If your iPhone automatically uploads pictures to iCloud, then even after deleting them, you can restore them from there.
First check if iCloud is enabled: Settings -> Your Account -> iCloud -> Photos. If the function is enabled, the photo can be restored.
- To do this, go to icloud.com with your Apple ID and go through verification.
- After that, go to the “Photos” folder and there, as well as on the phone, there will be a “Recently Deleted” folder.
- In it you will find deleted photos. However, if you sync photos from a Mac, tablet or phone, they will all be stored there.
Also, photos that were synchronized but deleted from one device remain available in the cloud and can be restored at any time.
Android

There are several ways to recover photos on Android. For example, an application for computers.
You can recover photos from your phone on Mac and Windows using a special program such as Tenorshare UltData. The application supports more than 2000 smartphone models and is able to restore data, including contacts and messages, even from a memory card and after the device is damaged or rolled back to factory settings.
- Install the program on Mac or Windows.
- After the installation process is completed, run it and select “Restore all data”.
- Now connect your smartphone via USB cable to the computer;
- Instructions will appear on the screen indicating how to enable USB debugging on the smartphone.
- After this action is completed, you will see a list of files. Among them, you need to select the ones you are interested in and scan them.
- After that, check the files again.
- To view deleted documents, you need to click the Show all tab and select Only display the deleted items.
- Now you can select the files of interest and restore them by clicking the appropriate button.
You can also restore files through the cloud, but only if you synchronize your smartphone with it.
Google Drive, like iCloud, has a folder for recently deleted files. You can also find photographs in it.
How to recover photos deleted from a memory card
You can only recover files from a memory card using special applications. Again, you can use the Disk Drill application, the method of which we have already described above.
If you are worried about the safety of your files and their accidental deletion, then it is best to make regular backups or automatically upload captured photos to the cloud. Now this can be done even with modern cameras, so do not neglect this opportunity so that deleted photos can always be quickly restored.
