Not everyone agrees that a blender is a kitchen essential, but many of us rely on it and use it every day. The blender can be used for cooking, mixing drinks and many other tasks. Of course, like most household appliances for the kitchen, modern blenders have a different set of functions, so when choosing a device for your kitchen, you will have to pay attention to certain characteristics and properties of blenders. We will tell you how to choose the right blender.

What are blenders

The functionality of a blender always dictates its cost. So, on the market you can find models designed exclusively for simple grinding or softening of products. There are models both submersible and stationary. An immersion blender will usually allow you to puree and mix certain types of food, which means that such blenders are equipped with just simple features. Sometimes there are several nozzles in the kit, and some models are wireless.

Stationary blenders are much more convenient. They can have great functionality, and during the cooking process they do not require constant attention: you load the products and wait for the required time.

The blender can be used for a variety of purposes and if you want to make smoothies and other drinks, then a blender with at least a 500W power with an ice crushing function is your best bet. If you are concerned about cutting and grinding food, then you will need an appropriate device with the functions of a food processor. For blending, cream soups, purees and baby food, a standard blender is suitable.

Blender volume

Blender bowls come in a variety of sizes and are made from a variety of materials. Most often you will find a plastic bowl on more budget models and a glass bowl on more expensive ones. In principle, the difference is small, since the plastic goes through all the necessary processing and is safe for food. These blenders are also lighter in weight. And yet many people prefer glass bowls. The shape of the bowl should be such that the finished substance is easily poured out of it. It is best to choose models with grooves, since such bowls are easier to clean and there are fewer marks on the walls. When it comes to knives, stainless steel knives are considered the most efficient.

Immersion blenders are very different, you can use them directly with the utensils you plan to cook in. They handle small amounts of food more easily, are compact and fit in a drawer or even on a hook. Please note that with all the features available, and some submersibles are even capable of breaking ice, they do not provide sufficient protection against splashes, especially if you are cooking in a separate container without a special cover with a hole for immersion.

Additional functions

Various manufacturers provide their devices with a number of additional features. So, for example, many models are equipped with knives with variable movement, which provides a smoother flow of products to the knife, adjusting the grinding speed to the required level.

To make cleaning easier, some blenders are equipped with automatic cleaning (pulsation), this function allows you to run the blender at maximum speed for a short time, which allows you to clean the knives and remove food residues from the bowl. The collapsible design can allow you to wash some items in the dishwasher, which will also provide convenience.

A number of blenders have the functions of a mixer, that is, an additional nozzle in the form of a whisk for whipping.

The heating mode allows the device to prepare jams and soups directly in the blender. Thus, you can simplify the cooking process, bringing it to automatism.

The timer allows you to adjust the whipping or cooking time, just like on some models, you can choose one of several speed modes that allows you to cook or chop certain dishes.

More professional blenders can also handle leaves, needles or tree bark, and even seeds, flours, and nut butters. To do this, the blender is equipped with special knives and high speed mode.

blender prices

The cost of a blender, of course, depends on the set of functions and design of the device. Most often, submersible models are cheaper, while stationary ones are slightly more expensive. A blender, in general, can be powerfully purchased at a price of 700–800 rubles. Of course, you will have to take into account all the necessary characteristics and choose the model that combines the features you need and a comfortable price. It is best to first decide what type of blender you need, and then clearly select the necessary functionality. And then compare prices and features of different models.

The cost of expensive, professional devices can reach 25 — 50,000 rubles or more, however, such models are more often purchased for catering establishments. Home models are both simpler and cheaper.

If you only need certain functions, such as mixing or grinding, you can also look at the corresponding devices — mixers and grinders. Perhaps one of them will suit you much better.
