So the tra­di­tion­al autumn Apple event has passed, and the long-await­ed new prod­ucts of the com­pa­ny have final­ly been announced. That means it’s time to talk in detail about what’s spe­cial about each new iPhone mod­el and why the Apple Watch Series 4 is a break­through in tech­nol­o­gy.

iPhone Xs

Every­one who attend­ed the event, watched the broad­cast, or at least read the news, is aware that Apple has fol­lowed the clas­sic path — it has cre­at­ed two mod­els of the flag­ship iPhone. The small­er one is called the iPhone Xs, and the larg­er one is called the iPhone Xs Max.

Many agreed that the iPhone Xs has not gone as far from the “ten” as we would like. Hav­ing set a new direc­tion for smart­phones with the pre­vi­ous iPhone, the com­pa­ny moved into a refine­ment phase, adding and improv­ing already exist­ing smart­phone fea­tures.

Thus, in the new device, it is pos­si­ble to choose a mod­el with 512GB of inter­nal mem­o­ry, a new A12 Bion­ic proces­sor and an improved dis­play work inside.

Exter­nal­ly, the smart­phone has remained vir­tu­al­ly unchanged, although many were pleased with the addi­tion of a gold­en mod­el of the device. Thin dis­play bezels, steel edg­ing on the sides and, of course, “bang” — all this still char­ac­ter­izes the iPhone.

Both the front and back sides of the case are still cov­ered with glass. Pre­mi­um design and decent appear­ance, per­haps this is how you can describe this device. By the way, in the hands it does not dif­fer from ten, so if you are wor­ried about the appear­ance of the smart­phone, do not rush to change X to Xs — no one will notice the dif­fer­ence.

The dis­play on the Xs is the same 5.8‑inch OLED dis­play with vibrant, rich col­ors that was dubbed the most advanced dis­play on an iPhone last year. Thanks to some small improve­ments, the per­for­mance of the dis­play is increased — the dynam­ic range is 60% high­er.

The speed of the device is def­i­nite­ly worth not­ing — the A12 Bion­ic proces­sor real­ly copes with any task in a frac­tion of a sec­ond, allow­ing you to eas­i­ly nav­i­gate between appli­ca­tions, chat, watch movies or play games.

The cam­era seemed to be one of the most antic­i­pat­ed changes, with pre­dic­tions and leaks hint­ing that the new iPhone would have as many as three cam­eras, or an incred­i­bly improved cam­era. How­ev­er, in prac­tice it turned out that the com­pa­ny is already very sat­is­fied with the result. The stan­dard-size mod­el final­ly gets a dual cam­era, both of which have a res­o­lu­tion of 12MP, plus opti­cal zoom and opti­cal sta­bi­liza­tion. One lens is wide-angle, the oth­er is tele­pho­to.

The cam­era app now allows you to cre­ate even more spec­tac­u­lar bokeh. But in gen­er­al, we can say that Apple is aim­ing for its new cam­era to catch up with the Google Pix­el 2 and Huawei P20 Pro.

As for the bat­tery, the man­u­fac­tur­ers promised 30 min­utes more work. This is not much, but there is a sim­ple expla­na­tion for this — a more pow­er­ful proces­sor requires a more capa­cious bat­tery. Con­sid­er­ing the fact that the iPhone X has a bat­tery capac­i­ty of only 2700 mAh, which is enough for a day with active use, we can assume that the dura­tion of the nov­el­ty will not change much in com­par­i­son.

The mod­el def­i­nite­ly lives up to the “S” name, usu­al­ly mean­ing small changes.

iPhone Xs Max

The main dif­fer­ence between a large iPhone is, of course, a 6.5‑inch dis­play and an improved bat­tery for it. Most of the oth­er fea­tures are the same as the Xs mod­el: the same two cam­eras, the same proces­sor, sup­port for eSim or dual SIM depend­ing on the mar­ket, and a 512GB stor­age con­fig­u­ra­tion. Sur­pris­ing­ly, the Max did­n’t bring any rev­o­lu­tion­ary changes to the Xs. The smart­phone is just as impres­sive in design, although some may find it too big.

Of course, the price of the mod­el will also dif­fer.

Many drew atten­tion to the non-stan­dard name, because for the first time Apple aban­doned the Plus pre­fix in favor of the not-so-orig­i­nal Max ver­sion. What­ev­er that means, Mi Max imme­di­ate­ly comes to mind.

iPhone Xr

All iPhone fans expect­ed to see not only a new flag­ship mod­el, but also a new bud­get ver­sion. There were a lot of rumors and talk about what kind of mod­el it would be, whether it would be a con­tin­u­a­tion of the SE series, and whether it would be more like the iPhone 8 or iPhone X. Spec­u­la­tion cleared up a lit­tle with the appear­ance of infor­ma­tion about the pur­chase of spe­cial dis­plays, but the talk did not fade away.

Well, this time the bud­get ver­sion is not too afford­able, but very impres­sive­ly pow­er­ful. The smart­phone has every­thing that we liked in the iPhone X: fea­tures such as a near bor­der­less dis­play, a high-qual­i­ty, if not dual, cam­era, Face ID. All this has become a lit­tle more afford­able, because the Xr is much cheap­er than the iPhone X. Well, many will also be pleased with a large selec­tion of dif­fer­ent body col­ors. The cost reduc­tion was main­ly due to anoth­er dis­play — LCD, which was called Liq­uid Reti­na. At the same time, the dis­play is very improved and the dif­fer­ence is almost imper­cep­ti­ble to most users. Apart from the lack of HDR, this is quite an impres­sive dis­play.

In terms of design, the Xr does­n’t dis­ap­point, it’s the same iPhone in the cor­po­rate style, made of qual­i­ty mate­ri­als and cov­ered with glass. It feels a lit­tle big­ger than its main com­rade — the Xs mod­el, but this will be notice­able only if you keep smart­phones near­by. In gen­er­al, the smart­phone looks very expen­sive and pre­sentable.

The cam­era on the iPhone Xr is fair­ly weak­er than the cam­eras on the Xs and Xs Max, there is noth­ing sur­pris­ing in this, because this is a sin­gle cam­era, albeit a wide-angle one. The absence of an addi­tion­al lens affects only the opti­cal zoom and tricky por­trait pho­tog­ra­phy. How­ev­er, in gen­er­al, it allows you to cre­ate bokeh and take high qual­i­ty pic­tures. There are no full spec­i­fi­ca­tions of the smart­phone yet, but in gen­er­al, it is impres­sive. Although the bud­get of the iPhone Xr mod­el is a big ques­tion, there is no doubt about its qual­i­ty and advance­ment.

Apple Watch4

If there’s been a major design change, it’s this Apple Watch. The main change was the dis­play, now it is larg­er and the dif­fer­ence is quite notice­able when you put the watch on your wrist. The OLED dis­play has more round­ed edges, elim­i­nat­ing the need to look at the edge of the screen. At the same time, the abil­i­ty to use all inter­change­able straps is pre­served. I must say that many require­ments were not tak­en into account. So, for exam­ple, the screen does not have an always-on func­tion. But this does not pre­vent him from being bright, pleas­ant and under­stand­able in man­age­ment and, in gen­er­al, very effec­tive.

The con­trol wheel also received an upgrade and now it can take ECG read­ings. By the way, it also became more con­ve­nient in man­age­ment.

The back of the watch is made of ceram­ic with sap­phire ele­ments that allow the mobile sig­nal to pass through.

Most of the fea­tures remain unchanged, although the new S4 proces­sor has def­i­nite­ly made a pos­i­tive dif­fer­ence to bat­tery life. 18 hours of work after charg­ing — this is exact­ly what the man­u­fac­tur­ers promise us.

In gen­er­al, if you are going to buy your first watch from Apple, it would be wis­er to choose a new mod­el. But if you have just pur­chased a watch of the 3rd series, then you should not rush to change it for a new one.

Results

In gen­er­al, we can assume that some­thing real­ly impres­sive will be in store for us next year, oth­er­wise how else to explain the very small num­ber of changes in all new devices? Noth­ing par­tic­u­lar­ly rev­o­lu­tion­ary, as was the case with pre­vi­ous iPhones and espe­cial­ly the iPhone X, did not hap­pen. More­over, many fans of the brand were dis­ap­point­ed with the pre­sen­ta­tion. For exam­ple, no news about Air­Pow­er wire­less charg­ing has appeared.

Oth­er devices, such as head­phones, Mac­Books and Apple TVs, also appeared in the shad­ow. By the way, the Mac­Book Air line­up has been in need of an update for a long time, I would like to hear news about the Pro mod­els.

It is quite pos­si­ble that we are wait­ing for anoth­er Apple event in Octo­ber, and at it, many will be wait­ing for more detailed infor­ma­tion and announce­ments about oth­er devices. In the mean­time, it remains to dis­cuss the lat­est iPhone and wait for their full release.
