Today on the review is a compact YT-228 photo tripod with a swivel head. The device can serve as a good assistant for photo or video shooting. In the article, we will consider its appearance, functional features, and also evaluate the quality of the materials.

YT-228 comes in a colorful yellow box. There is nothing remarkable on the box: the model number and brand name are indicated, and there are also several random images showing the tripod’s intended use.

At the end of the carton, you can see some of the characteristics of the tripod.

Appearance

The appearance and design of the YT-228 tripod is quite standard for typical tripods of similar models. The tripod is completely made of plastic, with the exception of the guide in the removable holder and threaded connections (they are made of metal).

The holder is mounted on a tripod with a 1/4″ threaded screw. Reliable connection with a tripod is ensured by a rubberized pad around the screw.

Structurally, on the one hand, it is a fixed part with a soft pad at the base, and on the other, a metal clip on springs with a rubber insert.

On the underside of the holder, you can see two screws and a threaded bushing.

The maximum width of the clamped device is 90 mm.

Let’s go directly to the tripod itself. All its functional elements are made of black matte plastic. There are three fixing screws on the bottom side, with which you can dismantle the legs of the tripod.

The legs are rubberized at the base, which gives a reliable grip on the surface.

The ball head is also made of plastic. A little lower is a simple mechanism with three working positions:

  • Open;
  • Fixing the position with the possibility of adjustment;
  • Rigid fixation.

Switching modes is done by moving the small lever to the left or right.

The total measured length in the closed position was 270 mm, with a weight of almost 189 grams.

Examples of using

In conclusion, I will give a few examples of using a tripod, with a smartphone and a “soap box” camera attached to it.

My old smartphone Lenovo S90 served as the first example. The phone was inserted into the holder easily and quickly. The screen diagonal of the device is 5 inches, with a weight of 129 grams.

If used as a small selfie stick.

Then the Canon camera was mounted on a tripod screw.

The “soap dish” is firmly fixed in the established position.

Conclusion

The YT-228 tripod made a good impression on me. For infrequent shooting at home or in nature, it fits perfectly. Of course, it is not worth considering it as a professional device, it is better to look at other options. Of the minuses, I note the plastic ball head, which is not designed for extremely frequent handling of the tripod. Otherwise, everything is pretty good: high-quality plastic, the width of the holder is suitable for most modern smartphones, a large angle of fixation of the ball head, as well as good stability of the tripod legs on most surfaces.
